Greenbacks Complete 'Double' Over Lincoln
United show spirit and determination to ease to victory after early scare
Considering the heavy pitch conditions the game turned into an exciting affair and Bedworth suffered a fright as early as the 4th minute, as Smith raced clear to clip a cross to the near post for Matt Cotton to sneak an angled shot clear of CRANE (GK) to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Now in front Lincoln went forward with pace down both flanks but Bedworth defended well before getting a foothold in the game with TROKE and ROWLEY creating two decent chances then after 24 minutes United drew level ROWLEY showed good strength to hold up the ball before clipping a weighted pass into TROKE who sent a crisp shot high into the net with McGann (GK) stranded.
It was Bedworth who now pushed forward with a series of attacks causing problems for Lincoln's defence, a rare foray forward saw 'The Whites' Smith's long range effort tipped over the bar by CRANE, with the clock running towards the end of the half the visitors took a deserved lead when ALBRIGHTON'S deep free-kick saw ROWLEY control and spin in the box to place his driven shot through McGann at his near post 1-2 .
The second-period started as the first ended with Bedworth pushing forward and going 3-1 up after 48 minutes, with ROWLEY and BLYTHE working a position up top for TROKE to drive into the penalty area and finish smartly shooting wide of McGann.
A change in formation to 4-3-3 for Lincoln saw them trying to stretch the play and get the ball forward quickly but Bedworth stood strong and looked dangerous when breaking forward themselves and the only real threat from the home side was when Cotton got inside the 18-yard box only to see his effort blocked by the sprawling CRANE.
Late on BLYTHE broke clear to set ROWLEY in with a chance, his effort curling wide of the far post and TROKE created space but finished tamely.
As the whistle went for full-time The Greenbacks had worked tirelessly for a deserved victory with an outstanding 'team' performance.
