Bedworth United Under 12 Juniors Chalk Up Another Victory
By Dean Wainwright
Greenbacks in their fourth game without a loss.
The young Greenbacks travelled away on a wet Sunday morning to Brinklow, it was wet, it was cold and the only thing to define the pitch was the corner flags and the goals as the line markings had virtually disappeared, stil the referee was happy for the game to go ahead.
The lads warmed up and went out confident following last weeks victory away at Stratford. The team was selected and unchanged from last weeks match and the whistle blew, with Brinklow winning the kick off.
We knew it was going to be a physical match and by no means a walkover, a lot of the work was being done between the two midfields, until 6 minutes in Kayne found himself out on the right wing with the ball, he used his skill and speed to get all the way into the danger area, Ethan was free and Kayne saw this with a beautifully weighted pass and Ethan had no issues taking Bedworth into the lead with a lovely goal. Robert went in for a challenge out on the right hand side and received a Brinklow high boot square in his face, he went down but within a couple of minutes was back on his feet. Lucas minutes later went in for a one on one challenge, both players collided and both players hit the floor, no mallace from either player and it was a perfectly fair challenge by both but a free kick was awarded deep in our half to Brinklow, the free kick was taken and shot wide of Toms Goal.
Brinklow got the game underway and there were changes both ends but no one able to capitalise, the ref was inconsistent with some of his decisions and not seeing blatant fouls and handballs, which was a little disappointing and often giving decisions contravening what both assistants had flagged.
Just before the break we found ourselves again in Brinklows danger area, this time with Robert having the ball at his feet, when he unleashed a shot which came off the ref and straight to the feet of Will who marched on a slipped it past the keeper giving us a 0-2 advantage going into the break.
Bedworth got the 2nd half underway with a solid performance from all of our lads who were now getting frustrated with decisions being given against them repeatedly. 20 minutes into the second half Tom launched the ball up the field, straight down the middle, straight to Kaynes feet,, he took the perfect touch and he was off taking it round the remaining defenders and bang, back of the net in a typical Kayne ‘Wonder Goal’, this seemed to rattle the home team as 2 minutes later Maddox stepped up to take a corner and what a corner straight into the mele, Ben was in the right place at the right time and added to the score tally, Bedworth continued to remain on top and in the Brinklow area a shot went in and was handled by one of their players, the ref had no option other than to award a penalty. Phinley stepped up to take the spot kick and gave Bedworth their 5th goal of the match.
A minute later there was an awkward passback to Tom which bounced up high and was being run down by a Brinkow striker, Tom had no option but to come out of his area and was forced to header the ball before the attacker got to it, the header went into no mans land and the only person to the ball was a Brinklow player who shot and straight over Toms head into the net, taking the score to 1-5 and thats how it remained until the final whistle.
Goal scorers today Ethan, Will, Kayne, Ben and Phinley with Robert securing todays Managers Player of the Match for his solid performance running the defence and midfield. Excellent performance by all and thanks to Kev for running todays line for us.
