Final Game of the season against Ambleside Aces sees defeat for BUFC
The lads were up for a bit of revenge having lost to Ambleside Aces a couple of weeks ago and we went out strong, with some great passages of play, all the way from the back through to forwards and to be fair we had the lions share of the possession, play and kept the visitors in their half for a large portion of the first half.
Neither team for the first 20 minutes could break the deadlock until we gave Ambleside too much of the ball in front of goal and allowed them to take the lead, which was totally against the flow of play. This seemed to affect our lads a little more than usual and we became sloppy and lazy allowing Ambleside to get to the ball time after time, we were slow mark our opposition and slow to react when they made a break for it. This became blatantly apparent when Ambleside were awarded a corner, the ball was struck one of their players broke free from our player giving him a open space in the 6 yard box and he punished us, taking it 0-2 into half time.
Mark and I tried to tell the lads that they weren't beaten, that they were playing the better football, that they could still turn this around, they came out with a new hunger and fir the first 5 minutes of the second half turned on the style again, but then the sloppiness crept back in allowing the forwards in behind our defence, allowing them to beat us to the long ball time after time and 25 minutes into the second half poor marking allowed Ambleside through again and they took advantage taking their lead to 0-3, by now our players heads were dragging on the floor, we were only jogging to the ball and appeared to have given up, when Ambleside capitalised on it sending a long ball forward, strikers leaving their markers for dead, Tom came out to try to get to a lose ball but was beaten to it by the unmarked forward who sent a ball into the air, over Toms head and into the net. The score remained the same until the final whistle, the lads didn't deserve this defeat today as there were moment of magic across the pitch from each of our players, we had several attempts on goal by Maddox, Kayne and Harry but unfortunately they were either kept out by their keeper of just off target, Tom pulled off some great saves throughout the game, the defence when working together were like a brick wall, mid field working hard back and forwards, its just unfortunate that it didn't all come together at the same time.
We need to continue to work on our fitness, getting to the ball first and winning the second ball and closer marking as we head into the summer break before moving to a full sized pitch next season.
Thanks go out to Pat who stepped up at short notice to referee the game, Lee for running the line and todays Managers Player of the Match was awarded to Maddox.
